A Place Where Quilting, Community, and Comfort Come Together
For nearly three decades, Loving Stitches has been more than a quilt shop. It has been a welcoming space where creativity flourishes, friendships form, and customers find inspiration, learning, and comfort through sewing and quilting.
Located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Loving Stitches has grown from a small neighborhood store into one of the region’s most beloved destinations for quilters and sewists.
A Store Built on Growth
Loving Stitches first opened its doors in August 1996 in a small strip mall in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The shop began modestly at just 1,200 square feet, but it didn’t stay small for long. As more quilters discovered the store, it expanded over the next few years to 3,600 square feet.
By 2003, the owners saw an opportunity to create something even more special. They purchased land and built a custom-designed, 10,000-square-foot store dedicated entirely to quilting and sewing.
The new location allowed Loving Stitches to truly grow into a full-service quilting destination. The store added longarm machines, expanded to more than 6,000 bolts of 100% cotton fabrics, and created multiple classrooms and a batting room. The result was a spacious, welcoming home for quilters and sewists from across the region.

A Colorful and Welcoming Space
Today, Loving Stitches is a large, full-service quilt shop located just a few miles from Interstate 95 in north Fayetteville.
The store is open, colorful, and inviting. Many first-time visitors walk through the front door and immediately exclaim “wow” as they take in the rows of fabric, creative displays, and bright workspace.

The atmosphere is warm, artistic, and friendly. Customers often describe it as a place where they can relax, learn something new, and spend time surrounded by people who share their passion for quilting and sewing.
“The staff is always willing to help. You walk in and everyone is so happy to see you. It’s just such a happy place to be. Just like going home.” — Ann F.
A Place of Comfort for the Community
Loving Stitches holds a unique place in the Fayetteville community. The shop sits near the largest Army base in the United States, Ft. Bragg.
Over the past two decades, especially during years when the nation was at war, thousands of soldiers deployed from Ft. Bragg, often leaving their spouses and families behind.
For many of those spouses, Loving Stitches became a place of comfort and connection. The shop offered a creative refuge where people could gather, share stories, learn new skills, and find a sense of community during difficult times.
It remains a place where customers come not only to sew and quilt, but also to relax, find encouragement, and connect with others.

“Every time I have a question, every time I need fabric selection, every notion is met with unparalleled support. It’s not just a shop. It’s a quilting family. From patterns to fabric. I would easily drive hours if I needed to, so I am blessed it’s so close to me!” — Kara H.
Products, Services, and Quilting Expertise

As a full-service quilting destination, Loving Stitches offers a wide range of products, services, and expertise.
The shop is an authorized Bernina dealer and carries the full lineup of Bernina machines, including Bernina longarm models. Two on-site service technicians support and maintain sewing machines, helping customers keep their equipment running smoothly.
The store also carries a wide selection of quilting supplies, including:
- more than 6,000 bolts of 100% cotton fabrics
- Arrow and Horn sewing cabinets

Loving Stitches also brings quilting inspiration beyond its own walls. The team regularly vends at quilt shows throughout the year, including guild shows, QuiltCon, the Road to Virginia show, and the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival.
The store even hosts its own event each year: the Quilting and Fiber Art Marketplace held in January in Sanford, North Carolina.
Classes, Events, and Special Guests
Education has always been an important part of the Loving Stitches experience. The shop offers dozens of sewing, quilting, and embroidery classes each month for beginners and experienced makers alike.
The owner also speaks at quilt guild meetings throughout the year, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm for the craft.
In addition to regular classes, Loving Stitches frequently welcomes guest teachers and hosts special events. Well-known quilting educators such as Kaye England and Claudia Dinnell have visited the store to teach and inspire students.
Customers can also attend trunk shows and events hosted by industry leaders including ByAnnie, OESD, Bernina, and fabric distributors.

Meet the Team
Behind every great quilt shop is a dedicated team, and Loving Stitches is no exception.
The staff includes passionate quilters and sewing enthusiasts who help customers choose fabrics, learn new techniques, and find the perfect tools for their projects.
Team members include Jacinta, Rosa, Ana, Paulina, Amanda, Tonya, Meghann, Carol, Dee Dee, and Ashley. Each brings their own creativity and expertise to the shop.
Customers may also notice a special member of the team: Igor the dog, the shop mascot. According to the staff, he has even been taught to quilt on a Bernina machine.

“The staff is highly knowledgeable and genuinely welcoming. Their courses are led by skilled, creative instructors who make learning engaging and effective. Customer service is consistently exceptional, and the support provided for machine purchases truly goes above and beyond.” — Mary H.
The Passion Behind the Store

Loving Stitches is owned by Carol Watkins, who has been sewing since childhood.
Carol has always loved fabrics, colors, and the creative possibilities they bring. She especially enjoys teaching and working with people who are new to sewing, helping them grow in both skill and confidence.
Watching customers discover the joy of sewing and quilting continues to be one of her greatest rewards.
Supporting Local Quilt Shops
Participating in the Local Quilt Shop Contest brought additional attention to Loving Stitches and reminded many customers how important it is to support local quilt shops.
Through social media, customers were encouraged to vote and show their support. The response highlighted just how much people value having a local shop where they can gather, learn, and shop in person.
As many independent quilt shops have closed in recent years, the contest helped reinforce the importance of supporting these creative community hubs.
