Twisted Sisters’ Quilty Pleasures in Eagle River is our 2023 Regional Prize Winner for Alaska.
Now entering year seven, the shop has been through an earthquake as well as the impact of Covid. Yet it remains a strong community-based quilt boutique that thrives with the help of family, friends, and amazing customers.
We asked Owner Katy Lander-Pederson about the store and its staff.
Can we share some history about the store?
Hello, I’m Katy, along with my daughter Britney, and my sister Colleen. Welcome to our quilt boutique! I am glad you found us and hope you find everything your heart desires.
Colleen and I are two of five sisters who grew up in Wyoming, being raised by a single mother who worked hard to develop in each of us a sense of strength and independence to carry with us throughout our lives.
Our mother enjoyed sewing and crafting. She encouraged us to use our creative artistic talents and not to be afraid of our unique individuality.
What started as a hobby has now developed into a full-time lifestyle and career involving sisters and daughters.
Our sister Eva, sister #2, is a full time Longarm quilter. We are so lucky to have such a treasure in our family, and to have a working relationship with her as she brings her many years of experience to TSQP (Twisted Sisters’ Quilty Pleasures).
Colleen, sister #3, retired from a long career at Horizon Air to commute to beautiful Alaska and become a part of our wonderful community here in Eagle River.
I , Katy, am sister #4, After retiring from my career in Geomatics, with the support of my husband Nathan, I created the TSQP Quilt Boutique. Once things fell into place, our daughter Britney joined the TSQP family full time and has been a true blessing, not only to our family bond but to the TSQP community.
We are family owned and operated. When the need arises, my husband Nate, who is a line haul driver here in Alaska, steps in to help run the shop, classroom, retreats as well as taking an interest in making his own creative quilts.
He is a favorite among our local quilters. When the word is out “Nate is running the boutique” they make the trip in to visit and shop.
Can you describe your product offerings or store services?
We have two brick-and-mortar spots located in the Eagle River Shopping Center.
The main boutique is just under 800 sq. ft., where we pack in a creative flair to help inspire quilters and have a family atmosphere. A few doors down we have a comfortable chic classroom that is used for TSQP classes, quilt groups, local guild meetings, and as a rental for groups of quilters.
We strive to make our boutique and classroom feel like you have come home to visit family.
We carry quilt shop quality fabric, notions, embroidery, and inspiration
In closing
Katy said “THANK YOU everyone for sharing this sister project with us! And make each day a Quilty Pleasure.”
We love this!
